Sheryl Polomka asked:

Panic disorder is a pretty scary disorder to have and those panic attacks causes can be quite varied from person to person. We live in a very stressful world and there is just so much tension and stress in so many people worldwide and as a result of all this stress there is also a big number of people that suffer from panic and/or anxiety disorders. One of the big causes of panic attack is phobias. People have many different phobias such as public speaking, fear of having an accident while driving, fear of large crowds, among others and sometimes this fear can become irrational. When fears become irrational then they can become a real problem, as this is when you may start developing a panic disorder. This fear can become so strong that when a person does come across their feared situation they could have a panic attack. Once a person has a panic attack then they are faced with a new fear on top of the old one, they now also have the fear of having an attack when faced with that situation that they are already afraid of. The fear of another attack is enough to make them have another one. Trauma is another common cause of panic disorder and when someone is faced with a devastating loss such as a loss of job, marriage breakup, loss of a family member, or even a major illness or surgery, can lead to this disorder. The mind is put under enormous pressure during traumatic events and in some people it is just too much to handle and the way they think will begin to change and even become irrational. Another cause of panic attacks is underlying disorders like depression. It is reasonably common for someone with depression to develop panic attacks, although not everyone with depression will. Your mind is already in a very negative path if you have depression and the constant negative thinking can develop fears of always being in depression amongst other fears. The mind really is an amazing thing but unfortunately it isn’t always rational and when that irrational part of the brain becomes too strong it can be difficult to change it back to thinking rationally again. The body responds to dangerous situations with its panic reaction and this is normal, but when the mind is thinking irrationally it is letting the body think that it is in a dangerous situation when it actually isn’t. The good news is that although it is difficult to change the way your mind is working, it is possible and you can overcome your fears and your panic attacks. Panic attacks causes are not all that relevant to the cure. To overcome your panic disorder you need to try to think positively and be determined to beat it. There are some very simple techniques available that can help you to get rid of this disorder for good.

Find the Root Cause of Your Panic Attacks

Panic Defence asked:

Panic attacks feel a lot like heart attacks. A panic attack might cause your heart to race, and it might cause you to become short of breath. You might find that you feel dizzy or light headed, and they are characterized with the feeling of life or death importance. It is not uncommon to believe that you are dying or about to die when you are having a panic attack. Fortunately for sufferers, they are usually not of a long duration, and will stop when they have run their course, usually a few minutes, or when the cause of the panic is removed.

If you are terrified that you might have another panic attack, you may just end up cutting yourself off from everything in order to avoid having another. You might hide from the world, or otherwise separate yourself from the friends and family who might otherwise be able to help you. If this sounds familiar to you, then you need to consider seeking professional help to empower you to dispel the threat of panic attacks that hangs over your head.

You may also be able to help yourself by avoiding the situations that cause you to have your panic attacks in the first place. One of the biggest causes of panic attacks is stress, and if you are constantly in stressful situation, then you will be at a much higher risk for panic attacks in the future. This stress is not necessarily the stress that comes over a few days over a particular event; panic attacks are triggered by constant stress over a period of months or sometimes even longer. This stress is often too much for people to bear, and even if we do not realize that, our bodies do, and they rebel.

Panic attacks can also be caused by certain situations. If you get a panic attack every time you are running late, or stuck in traffic, or going over a bridge, then you need to make sure to avoid those situations to prevent these same events from triggering more panic attacks in the future. You can take a different route to work, leave early, and avoid roads that you know will be snarled with traffic or even head to a local place for dinner after work before facing the drive home.

If you practice avoiding panic attacks and chart where you were, what you were doing, and how you felt immediately prior to each panic attack, then you can use this information to avoid the things that trigger you. You may be able to save yourself a lot of trouble with your mental and even your physical health later down the road.

Panic attacks do not just feel remarkably like heart attacks; recent studies have linked experiencing panic attacks with an increased likelihood of actually having a heart attack later. Keep your odds low and keep your stress levels down to avoid panic attacks and to remain as healthy as possible. No one likes to suffer, and panic attacks certainly fall into the category of suffering.

If you are at risk for panic attacks or you have had them in the past, then you should examine the past causes of your panic attacks so that you can help yourself to avoid similar situations in the future. You should also get in contact with your doctor to find out if you may need medication or therapy to help you take charge of your life and get away from the panic attacks. It can be difficult to determine exactly the best means of preventing panic attacks, but you may get better results when pairing the practice of avoiding triggers with medication to help you feel calmer. A therapist can also help you learn mental tricks to help you ride through the panic attacks without completely losing your cool the next time you feel one coming on.

Finding The Effective Panic Attack Treatment

Ian Jefferson asked:

When experiencing a panic attack, it usually happens with no warning and may result from no noticeable cause. Symptoms of panic attacks include numbness in the hands, perceptual distortions, shortness of breath, hot flushes, fear of dying and accelerated heartbeat, to name but a few. Some people suffer from several of these symptoms while other individuals may only experience two or three.

This does not mean that the one individual suffers from a more severe form of panic attack than another, it simply means that some people's brains respond differently to varying situations. When experiencing panic attacks on a continual basis, whether it is once a day or once a month, it is essential that one seeks safe and effective forms of treatment. Panic attack disorder is treatable in various forms and, as with any disorder, the selection of treatment is based on how severe the disorder is and the individual's own physiology.

One of the most reliable and trusted forms of panic attack treatment comes in the form of psychotherapy. Many individuals who undergo psychotherapy treatment experience a huge reduction in panic attacks and in many instances, the panic attacks never return. Other forms of panic attack treatment include the use of medication, or a combination of both psychotherapy treatment and medication.

Proven studies have shown that many individuals who suffer from depression and drug abuse have panic disorder, therefore, treating the root of the problem would entail that individuals are not only assisted in relieving their panic attacks but are also assisted with other mental and behavioral problems.

Panic attack treatments in the form of cognitive and behavioral forms involve assistance from a trained therapist to help the client locate the source of the panic attacks and assist with the surrounding behavioral and mental problems that may have triggered them, such as depression. Many counselors who are skilled in their field of work will be able to produce an effective treatment environment where the client will be able to overcome the panic disorder and its related symptoms and problems.

Many times, a panic attack treatment that is utilized is the use of prescription medications. Although found to treat the cause of the panic attacks and to help the individual to relax and feel comfortable in anxiety provoking situations, this form of medication has side-effects, one of its main disadvantages. Many people who utilize anti-depressants feel other than their normal self, for example, they may experience constant fatigue and worry, sometimes even hyperactivity. Research, however, has shown that most forms of anxiety treatments work to relieve the symptoms of anxiety and remove the anxiety disorder within a period of 3-8 weeks.

For a more natural approach, a variety of natural cures and remedies are also available. Ranging from simple behavior modifications to herbal remedies, they can be as effective as other panic attack treatments, without any harmful side effects. Suffering from anxiety disorder should therefore not consume your whole life. With the wide variety of treatments available, people suffering from panic attacks have a very good chance at resolving the problem and leading normal, panic-attack free lives.
